The miscellany page has now combined with the DVD page. Jazz on film is in the process of putting ‘DVD available’after features, shorts and documentaries. Selected DVDs will still be included on this page and will be at the end of this page.
Miscellany will be a selection of clips and information that cannot be categorized easily onto other pages. This could include  ‘unknown’ bands and artists brought to the site’s attention via youtube.

“Swamp Fire” by Hal Kemp and his Orchestra from1939. not quite hot jazz but a very popular band of the Thirties who was killed in an automobile accident in 1940.

In the clip below the Roger Wolfe Kahn Orchestra play a crazy selection including Crazy Rhythm. You're Driving Me Crazy and Crazy People. Not quite jazz but typical of the popular dance bands of the day

In the clip below Irving Mills presents three of the bands he managed. The Ellington and Calloway Orchestras became very well known. Mills Blue Rhythm Band started life as the Coconut Grove Orchestra, changing its name when Irving Mills became its manager in 1931. The Mills Blue Rhythm Band was based at Harlem’s Cotton Club in New York.
They worked steadily through the 1930s deputizing for the Ellington and Calloway Orchestras. Baron Lee led it from 1931 until 1934 when Lucky Millinder took over until its disbandment in 1938.

Below is a band called Tuba Skinny. Young musicians carrying the flag for New Orleans music.  Here they are playing on Royal Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans. The number is Jackass Blues.
